As part of our community collaborations and partnerships, Annie’s Angels is in the process of compiling its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to begin the journey to understand what true reconciliation is and how we can support this movement. It’s is a great way to start exploring Aboriginal Australia as part of the process is a survey for all staff to explore their own knowledge and understanding about reconciliation. Early childhood services are uniquely placed to begin the reconciliation journey by working towards the development of positive attitudes in new generations of children and to enhance their families understanding and commitment to reconciliation.
Ninnette Comito is not only working at Annie’s Angels as a dedicated Educator, she has created a magnificent piece of art for us to embrace and share with everyone. This art we wear depicts Ninnette’s families’ roots
“Red tailed Black Cockatoo represents good spirit. If you see one of these in your dreams it means you are going to have good health." Says Ninn.
The symbols represent the women in my family, 4 generations My grandmother My mother my self and my daughter. We are the centrepiece for the local indigenous families here in Harvey. Everybody is always running to my family especially my mother to help. Its about us coming together as a family, as a community spiritually and as a body as well.”
The Noongar words on the back of our shirts put it in one,
“Our family brings good spirits to this great country.”
